Summertime Bliss

image

One of the many reasons I love summer is that I’m able to spend weeks with my boys rather than just weekends during the school year. I enjoy having them 24/7 and the calmness that comes to my mind knowing they are all under our roof.
I’m cherishing the time even more now since each year they are older and will soon be leaving the nest. My oldest is already in college and the next one leaves in just 2 years. I enjoy the quiet moments of just watching a favorite TV show as well as the loud, rambunctious chaos when it’s dinner time.
But most of all, I love the bond that we’re creating as we just exist in each others space. As we listen to each other and share a piece of ourselves.
I remember myself as a teenager and not wanting to be around my parents, so having a different relationship with my own kids meant so much to me. I’m grateful that they enjoy our company and that we just let them be themselves.  I couldn’t ask for anything better.
My summertime bliss has arrived.:)

Taking a moment

I know we can all relate to the saying “there are not enough hours in a day”, to get your errands done, to clean the house, do the laundry….etc. I have alot of those moments especially when school projects are due or planning for our next Girl Scout meeting but once in a while it’s nice to just place those nagging commitments to the side and take a break!
My daughter is always asking to go to the park after school but time usually doesn’t permit it. On Friday, we just went for it! After a quick meet up with her fellow scouts, we packed a swimsuit and visited our local water park. We were there for just an hour but what a difference a little “slow down” time made for our soul. I love seeing her run and laugh, make new friends and just smile. It was great for me too, I was able to spend time in the shade with a good book.
Summer with bring a little more down time which I look forward to and making memories with the kids will be the best part of all. Camping trips, summer sports or even if you have year round school, we just have to remember to take a little moment…
Cheers!

Pink Safari Birthday!

What a wonderful birthday party we had at the Lowry Park Zoo! Olivia was so happy to spend the day with her BFF and ride the Carousel. I was happy to see her smiling all day long. Since we had a party room for an hour and a half, I made a light lunch of croissant turkey & swiss sandwiches and cupcakes. We then had the whole day to explore the zoo and partake in the rides! My favorite moment was seeing her feed Randall the giraffe. Mind you it was very hot (you know how it gets in Florida) but the kids were troopers and hung in there till the park closed. If you would like to have a great birthday party with little production I would highly recommend to plan an event at your local zoo! Enjoy!

Building a Children’s Library

I have always had a fondness for reading. Stories that transport me to other worlds and have me experience things I normally wouldn’t in my own day to day life. It began when my mother would read Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Peter Pan to my little sister and I at bedtime. I looked forward to those evenings meeting Wendy or going to the Diamond Mine with Grumpy. In high school and later years, I fell in love with Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, thanks to a wonderful English teacher.I wanted that love of reading to catch on with my children too. When they were babies, I started our daily storybook sessions and would collect books for their nursery. Dr. Seuss was a nightly favorite. I must have read The Foot Book a million times! Now at 16, 13, 10 and almost 4 my kids LOVE to read (maybe not so much the oldest!) A library card will save your pocketbook and open a new world of learning for them but nothing beats a personal library at home. While sightseeing thru Barnes and Noble(yes, I love to just roam the isles and search for treasures) I came across this beautiful collection: Barnes and Noble Leatherbound Classics. So gorgeously printed and stunning covers. What a joy! By far my favorite is Lewis Carroll‘s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Other Stories.

My sons will love Dracula and The Complete Sherlock Holmes. Also, no library is complete without a copy of Pride and Prejudice! Start sharing these wonderful adventures with your children and watch their love of reading grow. It warms my heart whenever my kids ask for a book rather than the latest video game! Pick one up then set up your own storybook time at home! Enjoy and Happy Reading!!
