Family Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean “Dead Men Tell No Tales”

What a ride!!! Yesterday, we had the opportunity to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. It was great way to celebrate the last day of school! This movie was definitely the best one yet!! I have loved all of the movies in the franchise but this one sealed the series for me with a perfect black pirate ribbon on top!

I won’t give away any spoilers because you have to experience it yourself but I will tell you, you won’t be disappointed! If you love action, suspense, special effects and a love story then this one’s of you. All our favorites are back, Jack Sparrow, Barbossa, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan along with the newest villian Salazar!

Pack a cozy blanket, put on your pirate hat and head to your local theater, Jack and his band of Pirates are waiting to take you on a voyage you won’t want to end!

Enjoy Mateys!

Family Movie Review: Transformers 4: Age of Extinction

This week was a movie marathon for us, we managed to get in two new films!  The perks of summer I guess. Yesterday we spent the afternoon watching Transformers 4 and I have to say it was both entertaining and disappointing at the same time.
Entertaining because I love the franchise and Transformers have a special place in my heart since all my boys loved playing with them when they were younger. I especially love the Dinobots, what little kid doesn’t love dinosaurs? Seeing Optimus Prime astride Grimlock was so awesome. In that aspect of the characters,  they kept true to the original story of the Transformers (ok, minus the fact that a T-Rex doesn’t shoot fire like a dragon).
I was disappointed that this film was like all other Michael Bay films, the typical sexy young girl in short skimpy clothes, a young guy to save her ( but Mark Walberg did pretty good as the over protective father) and long passionate kisses in the midst of Armageddon with the sun setting in the background.  I mean really, if I was fighting for my life that would be the farthest from my mind, but that’s just me. Plus the many product ad placements throughout the film was a turn off.
Overall, if you can block out all those typical obnoxious scenes then you just might enjoy this film. The special effects were spectacular and suspenseful and Kelsy Grammer is too good as a villian. He shook that nice guy image with Boss.
I found myself leaving the 3 hour movie looking at all the semi trucks on the road and yelling out the window:
“Autobots Transform”

Family Movie Review: How to Train Your Dragon 2

Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless and the entire village of Berk are back for another viking adventure.
We loved the first movie and we were excited to see the sequel. The trailer peaked our interest when it divulged the storyline of Hiccup meeting his mom for the first time after 20 years. I know I was curious as to where she was in the first movie.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers but just know it’s a great family movie with a wonderful message about finding your place in the world. Everyone can relate to the feeling you had in your youth of wondering what you were born to do, what is your contribution to society and will you live up to people’s expectations of you. Hiccup pondered all of those feelings and with the help of his family and friends was able to figure it out.
There were plenty of laugh out loud moments too, my favorite scenes were always with Ruffnut, the twin sister to Tuffnut.
Let me know how you liked it.

Family Movie Review: X-Men: Days of Future Past

We spent the afternoon today watching the new X- men movie. Our family loves the franchise and all the other Marvel characters. My husband Marc is an avid comic book reader and knows every storyline since he was a kid.
My favorite X-Men is Storm and Halle Berry is a great in that part. I especially love her short hair in this movie, maybe one day they’ll let her sport the signature Mohawk.
We had a few questions concerning the story, such as, how did Xavier come back after being killed by Phoenix and how is Wolverine able to remember everything since his memory was wiped out by a bullet to the head from Striker?
I guess they weren’t meant to be in succession but it would have been awesome to see how they have been getting along since then.
Overall, we enjoyed it and the special effects didn’t disappoint.
Don’t forget to stay behind till the last of the credits roll, the studios love to give you a glimpse of future movies in the works!
So grab a tub of popcorn and a package of Red Vines and get ready to see some metal bend!
